Anise is a character from the Bandai-Namco video game Tales of the Abyss . I was lucky to find an official design sheet, so there was a diagram of how the costume would look from all angles.
I drafted every piece of this costume, even the stuffed animal prop. I also hand-painted the tabard.
Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights is the highlight of the year for some, where thousands of people go to get scared every season. In 2011 the mazes were more ambitious than ever, drawing from films, music, and folktales alike. You can find out more about it here.
I learned a great deal about large-scale costume production working at Universal. There were upwards of three hundred costumes to make and alter. I found myself cutting out several at once or working on something as simple as backing lace inserts for eight hours straight only to pick it right back up the next day. I learned a lot of tips and tricks for working quickly but not letting the quality suffer. Distressing eveything with fake blood and snow was probably my favorite part!
If you'd like a closer look at some of the costumes, I suggest watching some of the videos here, especially the Extreme Make-up video at the bottom of the page.
I developed this original design by researching historical examples of justacorps from the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The fleur de lis motif throughout the costume subtly highlights the fictional history of the character as a French pirate.
This project won Best in Show at San Jose SuperCon 2009.
I designed and created this Star Wars costume for a client, incorporating design elements from existing Star Wars media. The symbols on the tabards are from the fictional Huttese language and spell out the code of the Sith from the Star Wars mythos.
This costume group won the First Place Craftsmanship Award for Design Creativity and Technical Skill at SacAnime Summer 2009.
Entitled "The Dark Jedi Knight", the group was inspired by both Star Wars and Batman. The costumes are firmly at home in either universe; they were designed to keep the vibrent colors found in comic books while still maintaining the weight and flow of costumes from the Star Wars films.
This costume of Duchess Satine from the Star Wars TV show "The Clone Wars", won a Lucasfilm Award for Attention to Detail at WonderCon 2010 and was specifically recognized by the show's supervising director, Dave Filoni.
I draped this costume using fabric specifically selected to most closely match the original TV show design and crafted each accessory including the headdress, earrings, and belt by hand.
This costume, Vocaloid Kaito from the Synchronicity series of music videos, demonstrates my ability to use multiple techniques in costume construction. Fabric painting, satin stitching, and jewelry-making are among the skills I employed to create a faithful reproduction of the artist's original design.
